My Life Job…

I have heard the expression “Don’t let your work define who you are”the concept being we are more than just our job.

But let’s face it our work does define who we are. The job provides us with structure and inherent discipline, defining both our time off and the “work week”.

Our paid days time off, if you are lucky enough to get them, define how long we go on vacation. If you don’t have days off work you don’t get any vacation.

The job defines when we get up, when we go to bed, how hard we party, who we spend time with and where we spend our time. The Job defines what we spend, when we spend and why we spend.

The job fills our mind with data and details about work providing focus to our thought.

In focused meditation we train our mind to focus on one thing, for example the breath leaving our bodies, allowing all other distractions to float free without a reaction.

Work provides a similar focus allowing us to concentrate on the important things at work that need to be accomplished and putting other distractions on the back burner, like fixing the RV.

And finally just when we think we can not work any longer or harder, the monthly pay check hits the bank balance and we get our reward, enabling us to purchase luxuries to recharge our batteries for a another week. And, by the way, we can simply pay someone else to fix the RV.

What happens then when you are suddenly laid off?

Niels Erik From…

Jewelry is often categorized by designer, but does it really matter who designed the piece?

In my humble opinion I think it does and this is why.

I am always finding vintage jewelry signed for example CW. 925.

By convention I know that the piece is in sterling silver because of the 925 and the CW. would indicate the silversmith or silver shop the piece was made by. Too many times the CW. designer fades into obscurity and I am never able to fathom who made it or where.

Occasionally that does not happen and I am rewarded with a great find. Take these absolutely gorgeous ruby amber and silver earrings pictured below.

What’s in a Ginger Jar?

“Why was I drawn to this Ginger Jar”? I asked myself when the dust settled. I had had gone to a little bazaar and craft show with Grandma and my misses with the sole purpose to hunt for precious metals in the form of interesting jewelry which  I could resell on my Etsy Shop.

News on the mystery gold lapel pin…

Here’s what I think so far…

Facts about the pin.

1. It is stamped on the back 10k.

This symbol is easy to understand it indicates a 10/24 or 41.67% % purity. It also tells us that this pin was made in the USA, and that it is unlikely to have been made before 1850.

2. It very very similar if not identical in basic manufacture to a pendant I have that is for a fraternity, namely Sigma Tau Engineering Honor Society.
